Description
QU40895 Unfinished Heavy Duty Greaseable Front CV Shaft Assembly for 2003-2010 Dodge Ram is the lowest cost way to replace your worn out Double Cardan Constant Velocity Dodge Ram 4x4 front CV driveshaft with a brand new, totally greaseable, 1-3/16" cup size CV U-Joints (1350 series) x 1-1/8" cup size front joint (3R series) heavy-duty Double Cardan Constant Velocity front driveshaft that you customize for length and complete the final assembly. The greaseable CV Head is already welded to the tube, so all you have to do is determine what length to cut the tube before finishing the assembly. Welding and other machine shop skills and equipment is required to complete assembly!!!!
Have a 2006 or newer shaft with a 1-3/16" cup? See Tech Note 6.

Tech Note 1: Kit Components
QU40895 Shaft includes:
QU40846 Greaseable 1350 Series CV Head
QU40758 3R series Greaseable front universal joint for 2003-2010 Ram with 1-1/8" diameter front u-joint cups
QU40843 Slip Stub
QU40906 Greaseable Slip Yoke with Press-On Seal
Approximately 20" of QU40832 Heavy Wall Tubing
Tech Note 2: 2003-2004
The 2003-2004.5 Dodge original equipment 1-1/16" cup size 1330 series Double Cardan CV Joint is limited to no more than an 18 angle. If your 2003-2004 big Ram has a lift kit, replacing the original assembly with one of our brand new 1-3-16" cup size 1350 series CV shafts will allow you to run up to a 32 CV angle without binding, however be aware that u-joint angles exceeding 20 will result in increased component wear and significant energy loss due to the power required to rotate u-joints at high angles. Also, remember the u-joint angle at the front axle cannot exceed 15.
Tech Note 3: Cup Size
The CV Flange will fit all 2003 to 2012 Dodge Ram 2500, Ram 3500 4x4 transfer case front CV output flanges, however, the 1-1/8" cup size front universal joint that comes with this shaft only fits 2003-2010 model year trucks front companion flanges that also use 1-1/8" cup size u-joints. If your Companion Flange is not reusable, you must also order QU50232. If you have a later model truck with a 1350 (1-3/16" cup size) front u-joint or wish to upgrade your front u-joint to 1350, see Tech Note 6.
Tech Note 4: Optional Boot
Optional QU50233 Boot can be used in place of the included Slip Yoke Seal. The Boot can extend Slip Joint life because it does provide a water-tight seal for the upper end of the Slip Yoke, however, you still have too periodically grease the slip yoke since the Slip Yoke vent can allow water to enter the lower end of the Slip Yoke.
Tech Note 5: Service Procedures
Cut your driveshaft tubing to a length that will have the slip yoke at the midpoint of it's travel over the non-splined segment of the stub with the trucks weight on the front axle. Driveshaft assembly can be done by any competent machinist, but best results are usually obtained from dedicated driveshaft specialists who can both finish and balance the finished shaft. For information on driveshaft runout and balance, see my TM3000 Driveshaft and Universal Joint Service Manual or TM3000 Excerpt TSB3510 Vibration, Balance, Angles, Ratings, Run Out, Torque Specs.
Tech Note 6: Upgrade to 1350 Series U-Joint
If you wish to upgrade your front u-joint to 1350 series (1-3/16" cup size) order QU40924 Drive Shaft and QU11079 1350 series flange yoke.

Unfinished CV shaft
Worked out great. Measured for fit. Took it to an axle shop to have them install the front yolk, cut, weld and balance the shaft and it worked out better than I expected. I have a 4 inch lifted 06 Dodge 2500 Diesel 4x4
