QU40774 Hot-forged Greaseable 1330 Series U-Joint is a hot-forged alloy steel cross and nitrile rubber seal, universal joint that fits many Dodge and Ford 4x4 front and rear driveshaft applications from the 1970's to current. This is a very good quality universal joint that is a perfect fit for 1330 series front and rear driveshafts. Assembled in U.S.A. with both USA and imported components.

Tech Note 1: External Snap Ring
QU40774 is an external snap ring type universal joint made to Spicer 1330 series dimensional specifications. The u-joint cup diameter is 1-1/16". The overall width is 3-5/8". Lubricate the universal joint periodically with QU90018 Pyroplex® Plus Synthetic Grease or other quality, water resistant NLGI #2 GC-LB grease.

Tech Note 2: 1979-1997 Fords
For late 1979 to 1997 1330 series Ford applications, you always have to check to see if the diameter of all 4 cups is the same. On many Ford driveshafts with Single-Cardan (1 u-joint) yokes, you will find a modified 1330 u-joint with 1-1/16" diameter cups pressed in the driveshaft yoke and 1-1/8" cups bolted to the axle or transfer case yoke. The larger diameter cups have thicker walls which are more resistant to deformation from the u-bolts that typically attach the universal joint to the gear box yoke on these older vehicles. These special universal joints which are our part number TK40723 or QU40776 are referred to as 1330F or 1330SP.

More universal joints and driveshaft yokes are wrecked by slam-bang methods of u-joint replacement than by any other cause. Refer to TM3000 Driveshaft and Universal Joint Manual or TSB3502 External Snap Ring Single-Cardan U-Joint Service.

Tech Note 4: U-Joint Maintenance
Service intervals for this greaseable universal joint will vary with your driving conditions and type of grease you use, but as a minimum, you should grease your u-joints at every oil change or every three months whichever comes sooner. Lube more frequently in extremely wet conditions or after submersion under water. Remember, a greaseable joint that is not regularly lubed will prematurely fail from water contamination or grease loss. So, if you and your grease gun don't get together very often, we recommend you select the more expensive TK40721 Torque King® premium non-greaseable universal joint which has an average life of 7-10 years due to its durable cold-forged cross, factory synthetic lubricant, and superior seals which keeps contaminants out.
