Tech Note 1:U-Joint Specs
TK40720 is an external snap ring type universal joint made to Spicer 1310 series dimensional specifications. The u-joint cup diameter is 1-1/16". The overall width is 3-7/32". For greaseable u-joints, see QU40784.

Tech Note 2:Tech Help
More universal joints and driveshaft yokes are wrecked by slam-bang methods of u-joint replacement than by any other cause. Refer to TM3000 Driveshaft and Universal Joint Manual or TSB3502 External Snap Ring Single-Cardan U-Joint Service.

Tech Note 3:Cold-Forged
Most U-Joint crosses are forged by one of two methods, either hot-forged or cold-forged. Cold-forged crosses are harder and more resistant to wear, but the process is costly compared to hot-forging. For certain applications, such as rear driveshaft u-joints on diesel trucks, the increased wear resistance of a cold-forged cross is very important. These Joints also have very effective o-ring type seals protected by a plastic deflector. The cold-forged cross, excellent seals, and high-quality grease means this cold-forged u-joint should easily outlast any greaseable hot-forged universal joint on the market by a considerable margin.
