QU40298 2000-2002 Dodge Ram 2500, Ram 3500 Inner Axle Shaft Seal A genuine original equipment seal used as the LEFT Axle Seal on all 2000, 2001, and 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 4x4 trucks with or without the vacuum controlled Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) system. QU40298 is also used as the RIGHT Axle Shaft Seal on those later production 2002 models that did not have CAD. Due to the restricted area where these seals press into, it is recommended you use QT1071 Seal Installer (Included in QK4621 and TS4621 Tool Sets) for a trouble and leak free installation. Use one seal for CAD axles and two Seals for those late axles without CAD.

Tech Note 1: Complete Axle Tear Down Required
Complete axle tear down including Differential removal is required to change these seals which are pressed into the inboard end(s) of your axle tubes right next to the differential.

Tech Note 2: Used In
QU40298 Seal is used for the left axle shaft on all 2000-2002 Dodge Ram 2500, Ram 3500 4x4 Trucks. It is also the seal used for the right axle shaft on 2002 trucks WITHOUT vacuum controlled Central Axle Disconnect (CAD).

Tech Note 3: Removal Tools
Once the axle is disassembled, the old seals can be easily removed with our TS4862 and QT1216 Seal Remover Tools or other suitable tool such as a length of sturdy pipe that will fit inside the axle tube. You will also need to clean the inside of the axle tube to remove dirt and crud that could get pushed into your new seal during reassembly.

Tech Note 4: Upon Removal
Upon removal, check your axle shafts for damage in the seal contact area. If your axle shafts are badly grooved or rust pitted you will need to replace your axle shaft to prevent oil seeps or leaks. Less severe damage can be cleaned up with super-fine abrasive cloth and you can slightly offset the seal with our adjustable depth tool design so the seal lip will contact an undamaged surface. To offset the seal, you first temporarily place the seal installer in your old seal before you knock it out. Mark the depth of our tool in your housing. Remove the tool and old seals. When you install the new seal(s), offset it from the original depth by pressing it in more or less than the original seal depth as indicated by your depth mark.
