Tech Note 1: Differential Shims
Pinion Depth must be set before calculating the differential shim pack thicknesses. Differential adjustment on Dana 80 axles uses a combination of selective fit shims placed between the differential bearing and differential case plus QU40260 thick steel outboard spacers located between the bearing cup and axle housing. Use a dial indicator and QT1099 Master Bearings to determine the amount of selective fit shims required to get the correct gear lash and differential bearing preload. Tech Note 2: Pinion Preload Shims
Dana 80 pinion bearing preload is set by shims placed between the pinion shoulder and outer pinion bearing. No crush sleeve is used!

Tech Note 3: 2000-2002 Dodge Dana 80 Pinion Depth Shims
Two types of Pinion Depth Shims were used on 2000-2002 Dodge Dana 80 Rear Axles. Most early axles will have the depth shims located between the Inner Pinion Bearing Cup and Housing. Most later production axles will have a single thick shim located between the Inner Pinion Bearing and Pinion Head or a combination of under bearing and under cup shims. Both Dodge and Dana only list the under cup shims as included in our QU40261 Kit for use in ALL 1994-2002 Dodge Dana 80 axles. The under cup shims work fine for all years, but if you are purist and want to use under bearing type shims, here are your 2 choices:
A) Order QU40261 Kit AND QU51053 Basic Under Bearing Shim Kit. With this option, you will probably need to use both type shims as the QU51053 only includes about 0.063" total shim thickness when all 5 shims are stacked.
B) Order QU40568 Dana 80 Pinion Shim Kit for axles that use the under bearing type shim AND QU40213 Differential Shim Kit.

This Kit works on all Dodge Ram Dana 80 rear axles, but only fits Ford Super Duty applications to 1995. 1996 and newer Ford Dana 80 axles use QU40568 Differential Shim Kit.
