QU40159 Inner Axle Shaft Seal A genuine original equipment seal used in many Dana-Spicer Model 44 and Model 60 front drive axles from the 1970's to 2001. Manufactured for Dana by NOK, this seal meets all original design specifications for your standard or Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) axle. Due to the restricted area where these seals press into, it is recommended you use QT1029 Seal Installer and the appropriate Front Axle press tooling such as our QK4620 or TS4620 Sets for CAD axles or for a trouble and leak free installation. Tech Note 1: Location
Like almost all solid beam axle shaft seals, QU40159 Seals are pressed in the inboard ends of the axle tubes next to the differential. It is impossible to replace the seals from the outside! You must remove the hubs, axle shafts, and differential to replace these seals.

Tech Note 2: Old Seals
Once the axle is disassembled, the old seals can be easily removed with our TS1184 (Dodge CAD axles) or QK4647 (Non-CAD axles) Seal Remover Tool Sets or other suitable tool such as a length of sturdy pipe that will fit inside the axle tube. You will also need to clean the inside of the axle tube to remove dirt and crud that could get pushed into your new seal during reassembly.

Tech Note 4: Installation
After the seals are installed, be sure to grease the lips to provide initial lubrication for the seal lip. Neglecting this step will usually cause the seal to fail the first time you use 4x4 mode. Do NOT grease the axle shafts as the grease will pick up crud as they are slid into the axle housing.
