Tech Note 1: Maintenance
A boot protected driveshaft slip joint will usually outlast the truck as as long as the boot is intact and there is some grease on the splines. If your Boot is damaged, REPLACE IT! If your Boot is OK, but you are doing other driveshaft service, always clean and grease the splines AND replace the clamps!

Tech Note 2: Tighten
Using a QT4018i Clamp Tool specifically made to tighten eared clamps around the driveshaft boot is the best way to tension a stainless steel Boot Clamp to provide a 360 air and watertight seal. If a Clamp Tool is not available, you may be able to get by with a nail puller or hoof nippers. Wire cutters could be used in an emergency situation as a last resort, but the results are often unsatisfactory.

Tech Note 3: 4 Pleat & 5 Pleat
QU40128 has a 4 pleat Boot which replaces both 4 pleat and 5 pleat original equipment boots. I do not remember the exact year the original equipment driveshaft manufacturers replaced the 5 pleat boot with the shorter 4 pleat version, but it was around 2003 or 2004. If you are replacing a 5 pleat boot, the placement of the small end of the new Boot may be closer to the slip yoke.
