QU40107 CAD Axle Shaft Support Bushing for Dana 30, 44, 60 CAD Axles

QU40107 CAD Axle Support Plastic Bushing for many Dodge and Jeep 4x4's using Dana-Spicer Model 30, Model 44, and Model 60 front axles equipped with vacuum controlled Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) systems. This Plastic Axle Bushing is a very common part to wear out because the matching Differential Output Shaft rotates in the opposite direction in 4x2 mode effectively doubling the speed difference between the two shafts. Tech Note 1: Wear
This bushing is often worn out on axle shafts with some miles on them. There should be almost no vertical play between the 5/8" diameter stud on the Differential Output Shaft and this bushing after it is pressed into the end of the Inner Axle Shaft. A loose fitting bushing can cause the right axle shaft seal to leak and axle shifting problems due to axle shaft misalignment.

Tech Note 2: Lube
Lubricate the Bushing with petroleum jelly after installation.

Tech Note 3: Matching Supporting Part
Depending upon the year and model of your 4x4, the center support for your right side axle shafts is also provided by either a bushing or needle bearing. If you need QU40107, chances are you also need to replace the Differential Output Shaft Bearing or Bushing:
1994-2001 Ram 1500: Can use either QU40292 Bearing or QU40320 Bushing
1994-1997 Ram 2500 Dana 44: Can use either QU40292 Bearing or QU40320 Bushing
1994-1999 Ram 2500, Ram 3500 Dana 60: QU40292 Bearing
2000-2002 Ram 2500, Ram 3500 Dana 60: QU40316 Bushing

Tech Note 4: Before Disassembly
Before you start to disassemble the right side of your axle, shift your transfer case into 4x4 with the engine running and the vehicle properly supported. Wait until the 4x4 dash light illuminates before you shut off the engine. If the vacuum controlled CAD system is working properly. this will keep the Axle Shift Collar in place when you remove the right axle shaft.
