Tech Note 1: Slip Stub Dimensions
For Dodge full size front CV shafts that use this Kit, the outside diameter of the male 29 based on 30 spline slip stub will be 1-9/32". The matching female slip yoke will have 29 normal splines plus one double width spline. By now many of these older shafts have had the slip joint replaced with a different size so if YOUR driveshaft SPLINES do NOT match these specifications, DO NOT ORDER this Kit!
Tech Note 2: Wear
A boot protected driveshaft slip joint will usually outlast the truck as long as the boot is intact and there is some grease on the splines. If your Boot is damaged, REPLACE IT! If your Boot is OK, but you are doing other driveshaft service, always clean and grease the splines AND replace the clamps!
Tech Note 3: Clamp Tool
Using a Clamp Tool specifically made to tighten eared clamps around the driveshaft boot is the best way to tension a stainless steel Boot Clamp to provide an air and watertight seal. If a Clamp Tool is not available, you may be able to get by with a nail puller or hoof nippers. Wire cutters could be used in an emergency situation as a last resort, but the results are often unsatisfactory.
Tech Note 4: 1998 Model Year
Dodge used two different front driveshaft slip yoke boots for the 1988 model year. QK3078 fits original equipment front driveshafts in trucks built after March 28, 1988.
Tech Note 5: Other Applications
QK3078 Boot Kit will fit some Dodge/Plymouth rear driveshafts as far back as 1986. The possible rear driveshaft applications include 1986-1989 T4 Front Section Van Chassis, 1987-1993 Dakota, 1990-1993 Ramcharger, Trailduster, or Ram Truck. QK3078 is the correct boot if your rear driveshaft has ALL these features: U-Joints: 7260 (1.078" Cup, 2-1/8" between yoke ears) or 7290 (1-1/8" cup, 2-5/8" between yoke ears) 29 Spline Slip Joint
Boot has large diameter end on Slip Yoke and small diameter end on splined stub
