Tech Note 1: Press Fit Seal
TK30640 is a Unitized Oil Bath Wheel Seal that is designed so the inner sleeve rotates within the outer Seal Shell. This means the seal is a press fit on both the spindle and in the wheel hub. This design, in which the seal rotates within itself eliminates one of the most troublesome causes of wheel seal leaks with one piece conventional seals which often groove the spindle. Unlike conventional seals which have the seal lip directly rotating and wearing on the spindle, our Oil Bath Seal seal lip rotates on the seals fixed inner sleeve so there is no wear on the spindle at all.
Tech Note 2: Wheel Seal Installer
Oil Bath Seals like TK30640 are very effective when properly installed. However, these seals can be easily damaged by makeshift installation tools and techniques. Install your seal like a pro, quickly and without damage using our optional QT1560 Wheel Seal Installer.
Tech Note 3: Lubrication
Under operating conditions, the rear wheel bearings are bathed in oil from the differential, but they do need to be pre-lubricated to provide initial lubrication.
Tech Note 4: Axle Vent
Many wheel seal leaks are caused by pressure building in the axle due to a clogged axle vent system. Always check and clear the vent system. Other common causes of leaking seals include improper wheel bearing adjustment, poor installation techniques (See Tech Note 2), and damaged spindle surface or hub bore.
