Tech Note 1: Alignment Required After Installation
After installing your new tie rod end, the front end will need to be aligned to reset toe-in and steering wheel center position.
Tech Note 2: Check the Adjuster Sleeve
Always check your Adjuster Sleeve for damage most especially check the condition of the threads. Besides taking the chance of screwing up the threads on your new tie rod, reusing a damaged adjuster sleeve could cause the steering linkage to fail unexpectedly and you won't like the results.
Tech Note 3: Nut Torque
Tighten the Castle Nut to 51-73 lb-ft (70-100 N-m). If necessary, advance nut slightly to line up slot in nut with hole in stud (Do NOT back nut off!). Install Cotter Key. (source: 1995 Ford F-Series Factory Service Manual, Steering Linkage F-250 4x4 Illustration)
Tech Note 4: Lubricate
Lubricate the Tie Rod End after installation with a quality EP#2 Chassis Grease. I also like to put a thin coating of S9975 Anti-Seize Compound on the tie rod 1" threads and Cotter Key. DO NOT lubricate the tapered stud.
