Tech Note 1: Lubrication
Most rear wheel hubs that get wrecked are from lubrication related failures. Since your rear wheel bearings get lubed with oil from the differential, any wear particles from the diff will contaminate your wheel bearings. Prelube your wheel bearings and the hub cavity with clean oil before assembly AND plan on inspecting and/or replacing your wheel bearings every time the rear brake pads are replaced. In most cases, wheel bearings in full floating rear axles will need to be replaced in the 100,000 to 150,000 mile range depending upon the service conditions.
Tech Note 2: Wheel Seal Installer
The original equipment unitized oil bath type rear wheel seal used with these hubs, must be installed with QT1529 or similar Wheel Installer for maximum seal life. Unitized wheel seals incorporate a rotating wheel seal with a fixed wear sleeve in one assembly. Makeshift installation methods like a hammer or block of wood usually dent or distort unitized seals and result in premature failure.
