Tech Note 1: 1480 and 1550 Series U-Joint
In 2018 Ford updated both right and left axle shaft assemblies to a larger premium greaseable 1550 series u-joint. QU20042 Outer Axle Shaft uses a 1480 series u-joint will NOT fit the inner shafts that are used with the bigger 1550 u-joint. The larger 1550 outer axle shaft is not available separately. If you are unsure which series of axle shafts you have under your truck, simply measure the u-joints across the flats.
1480 Series U-Joints measure 4.188" in length with 1.375" u-joint caps
1550 Series U-Joints measure 4.964" in length with 1.375" u-joint caps

Tech Note 2: Reasons to Replace
The two most common replacement reasons for 2005-2010 Ford Super Duty® outer axle shafts is breakage from u-joint failure and wear from the Axle Support Ball Bearing.
