Mainshaft Nut
Applications
Tech Note 1: Mainshaft Nut
GM 4x4 and Dodge NV4500 transmissions have 4 slot nuts on the output side of the mainshaft to retain the mainshaft 5th gear. Due to the high torque these nuts are tightened to, it is essential to use the correct wrench for the remove and install the mainshaft nut. All Dodge NV4500 transmissions use 1 of two sizes of spanner wrenches. NV4500HD transmission used in Cummins and V10 powered Dodge RAM models have a large diameter mainshaft nut. For these transmissions select either QT2001 (1/2" drive) or QT2036 (3/4" Drive). For 1992-1993 NV4500 and 1994-2004 NV4500LD transmissions in gas V8 Dodge trucks use QT2002. All GM 4x4 transmissions use the smaller mainshaft nut. Most early and mid production GM NV4500 4x4 transmissions had a vibration dampener which has a recess for the mainshaft nut. QT2028 socket is required to remove/install the mainshaft nut on GM transmissions with the vibration dampener. If your GM NV4500 has the spacer tube instead of a vibration dampener, you can use either QT2002 spanner wrench or QT2028 socket.

QT2001 LG M/S NUT WRENCH
Worked as intended. Fits OEM nut perfectly. On the Latest upgrade nut (with the 3 set screws and brass feet) the wrench would only slide on one way. This is due to the taper caused by the water jet. This is not a problem, just an observation. The 1/2 inch drive hole did not distort from applying final torque. Based on my calculations, (center to center is 3 inches) to achieve proper torque for the Dodge nut, with the wrench and torque wrench in line, the torque setting (or reading) on the torque wrench should be 251 foot pounds. Note from Torque King: The listed factory Torque Value for the NV4500HD nut of 270-280 lb.ft. is calculated with the offset of the QT2001 and Stock Dodge Nut Wrenches already factored in. We recommend you do NOT reduce the torque value from the factory recommended value.
