End-Play Note
Applications
Tech Note 1: End-Play
The combined input shaft and mainshaft end-play is set by selective fit shims located between the input bearing cup and front bearing retainer. Countershaft end-play is adjusted by selective fit shims and QU10412 Bearing Spacer located between the input bearing cup and front bearing retainer. The end-play adjustment for the countershaft reverse gear is set by selective fit shims positioned between the countershaft rear bearing cup and the cast iron rear transmission housing. Accurate end-play adjustments will maximize bearing life.
Tech Note 2: End-Play Note
End-Play should not change significantly if at all when replacing original bearings with name-brand bearings like Timken or Koyo. The countershaft rear shims are to set end-play for separate reverse gear that goes behind the countershaft. End-Play allows shafts to expand when heated during operation so the Bearings do not get excessively preloaded and burn up.
