Tech Note 1: Wheel Hub Upgrade for Higher Horsepower Applications
Tired of blowing lockout hubs or having the hub bolts loosen up? Or do you want to convert a 1975-1989 dually to singles? You can easily update your 1975-1989 era wheel hubs and lockouts to the 1990-1993 internally splined wheel hub and splined lockout hubs. While not cheap, it is simple because the spindles, axle shafts, brake calipers and brake caliper anchor plates are the same for all the 1975-1993 Dodge Dana 60 front axles. Our TK4996 Kit includes everything you need for the upgrade including the less troublesome round spindle nut set. TK4996 includes:
(2) TKA4962 USA Made Torque King Splined Wheel Hubs with Timken Bearing Cups
(2) QU40119 OEM Dana Wheel Seals
(2) each Timken QU50398 Inner and QU50412 Outer Wheel Bearings
(16) QU50774 1/2" Wheel Bolts
(1) QU56011 Warn M256 Hub Set
(2) QU80005 Disc Brake Rotors
(2) QK4729 3 Piece Spindle Nut Sets
(1) QT1018i 4 Lug Spindle Nut Socket
Tech Note 2: Never Reuse Wheel Bolts
For safety reasons, never reuse wheel bolts (studs). New wheel bolts do not cost very much and they are way cheaper than hospital or funeral bills.
Tech Note 3: Rotor Runout
It is relatively unusual for a big 4x4 brake rotor to have less than the maximum allowable runout and rotor thickness variation once it is assembled to a wheel hub. This is due to manufacturing tolerances of the parts and the pressures exerted on the hub and rotor when pressing in the wheel studs. After assembling your brake rotor to the new hub, the rotor should be checked for thickness variation (0.001" {0.025 mm} maximum) and runout (0.005" {0.127 mm} maximum with 0.003" or less preferred). A rotor that is out of tolerance should be machined with an on-the-vehicle brake lathe if possible or on an accurate bench type brake lathe.
