QU10736 Genuine NVG 5th Gear Fork & Lug Not really a Fork as such, but nonetheless, a critical part. The lug on the upper end of this part fits over a tang on the Reverse Shift Fork. As you move your shift lever between 5th and reverse, the Reverse Fork will move this part and the attached 5th gear shift rail back and forth allowing the conventional 3 rail top cover to be used to shift the remote 5th gear fork and rail. Fits 1992-2005 Dodge and 1992-2007 GM New Venture NV4500 5 speed manual transmissions. USA Made.

Tech Note 1: Replace
To replace QU10736 NV4500 5th Gear Shift Lug, the transmission should be out of the truck with the top cover and rear housing removed. You will need a long reach punch like QT9300 8" Punch to remove the roll pin from the 5th Gear Lug and QU10030 5th Gear Rail. I recommend you refer to my fully illustrated, step-by-step, TM1003 NV4500 Shop Manual for service procedures.

Tech Note 2: Shift Rail Locations
The New Venture NV4500 transmission has four shift rails, three of those, including the 5th-Reverse Rail, are in the top cover. The fourth rail which is for 5th gear, is located partly in the transmission case and it is controlled indirectly by the reverse shift fork through a connecting arm or lug.

Tech Note 3: Inspect 5th Gear Rail
The front of QU10030 5th Gear Rail fits in a pocket bored in the transmission case. Always inspect the front of the rail for wear which can cause shifting problems if a step gets worn on the rail.

Tech Note 4: Sealants
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
