Description
QU10175 NV4500 Mainshaft Rear Retainer Thrust Plate is a genuine New Venture Gear, precision ground, Rear Mainshaft Bearing Thrust Plate. QU10175 bolts to the back of your main NV4500 transmission case and is ground flat on one side for accurate end-play measurement. By adjusting the shims between the Bearing Plate and mainshaft rear bearing cup, you can set your Countershaft End-Play to the desired 0.002" to 0.006". Depending upon our stock on hand, this Genuine New Venture Gear part is either a new takeout component from brand new transmissions we disassembled for parts or a brand new, never installed part. Fits all versions of NVG NV4500 5 speed manual transmissions. USA Made.

Tech Note 1: End-Play
Accurately measuring Mainshaft end-play requires the transmission and installed input shaft and mainshaft shaft be rotated to the vertical position with the rear of the mainshaft at the top. The measurement must be taken with an accurate dial indicator. Allowable tolerance is 0.002"-0.006". See my TM1003 NV4500 Shop Manual or VSG1003DVD NV4500 Overhaul Video for further information.
Tech Note 2: Inspect for Damage
NV4500 Mainshaft Rear Bearing Thrust Plates usually only require replacement if the ground face is damaged or the plate is bowed from excessive horsepower.

Tech Note 5: Lubricants, Sealants, Threadlockers
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
