QU10004 NV4500 3rd or 4th Synchronizer Ring

QU10004 NV4500 3rd or 4th Synchronizer Ring is a high quality, USA Made, original equipment style, carbon fiber lined synchronizer ring for all 1992-2007 GM and 1992-2005 Dodge New Venture NV4500 5 speed manual transmissions. One Ring is used with 3rd gear and one with 4th. Diameter wise, this Ring is larger than QU10003 5th-Reverse synchro ring and smaller than QU10002 1st-2nd synchro ring.

Tech Note 1: Troubleshooting Shifting Issues
Typically, NV4500 transmissions with stock type synchronizer rings are easy to shift, with a smooth positive feel. This is largely due to the advanced carbon fiber coatings on the rings and the use of compatible lubricants like Castrol Syntorq LT® or QU90020 NV4500 Manual Transmission 75w85w GL-4 synthetic gear lubricants. If you are experiencing shift difficulties with your NV4500, the most likely causes are: wrong or dirty lubricant, clutch issues, excessive mainshaft bearing end-play, or aftermarket brass synchro rings were installed when the transmission was rebuilt. Sometimes, changing the oil will help, but typically, by the time you get around to fixing the problem, the damage is already done.

Tech Note 2: Inspect Synchro Clutches
The New Venture NV4500 5 speed transmission 3rd gear and 4th gear synchro clutch each have a tapered, precision ground cone that QU10004 synchro ring rides on. If a synchro cone finish is pitted, scored, or heat discolored, you should replace the part.

You will need some special tools to correctly service your NV4500 Transmission. The chart below lists our current NV4500 Special Tools for popular models.

Tech Note 5: Lubricants/Sealants/Threadlockers
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
