Ford first used Dana S-110, 12.25" ring gear, removable carrier, full-floating rear axles as the optional, heavy-duty rear axle in 2003 and 2004 model year, 1-1/4 ton, F-450 trucks. The Dana S-110 replaced the lower capacity, 11.25" ring gear Dana 80 previously used for the F-450. Starting with the 2005 model year, the Dana S-110 is used in all F-450 cab and chassis trucks. F-550 trucks started using the S-110 axle effective with the 2005 model year instead of the oversized for the application, Dana S-135 that equipped 1999-2004 era 1-1/2 ton F-550 models.
