1971-1991 Full Size J-Series, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, Cherokee, Cherokee Chief, J-Series Trucks. Jeep first used a greaseable Spicer Type Double Cardan Constant Velocity Front Driveshaft for the 1971 model year. The new driveshaft style, which replaced the previous Mechanics CV Joint, was initially used on the final production 1971 full size J-Series models with GM 350 engines. In 1971, Jeep also introduced AMC 6-258, V8-304, and V8-360 engines in the J-Series (Wagoneer and Pickup) line up. From 1971 throgh 1986, all J-Series front CV shafts had a greaseable CV Centering Yoke. Starting in 1987 and until J-Series production ended in 1991, some, but not all Jeep J-Series full size 4x4s with AMC or Chrysler engines were built with a Spicer Type greaseable front CV driveshaft.
