Dana Spicer Model 41 and Model 44 Semi-Float Rear Axles share many common parts. The Dana 41 was first used in 1946 on the CJ2-A after Serial Number 13453. Jeep used the Dana 41 on 1945-1949 CJ-2A, 1949 4x4-63 Wagon, and 1949-1950 CJ-3A up to serial number 62488 when it was replaced by the very similar Dana 44 which has a wider differential housing. The Dana 44 Semi-Float rear axle with tapered axle shafts would be used on most Jeep Models up to 1/2 ton class from 1950 all the way to 1968. 1969 was the transition year when Jeep Dana 44 rear axles with flanged axle shafts first appeared, but for some applications, the tapered shaft 44 is listed in the Jeep parts catalog through the 1971 model year.
