Description
The American Axle Manufacturing AAM 9-1/4" 14 bolt front axle in most 2003-2013 Ram 4x4s is also called the AAM 925 and AA 9-1/4. It is a live, iron beam front axle with a 9-1/4" hypoid gear set.
Coil Spring Suspension with 5 Links (4 Link Arms plus a Track Bar)
The cover is retained by 14 bolts.
The ring gear is attached to the differential with 12 LEFT HAND thread bolts"
Differential Bearing Preload and Gear backlash changed by adjusting nuts
Pinion Depth set by shims under the inner pinion bearing
Collapsible Spacer (Crush Sleeve) used for Pinion Preload
Power Wagon models have an electric locking differential. All other axles use open diffs.
Two different axle Universal Joints were used. 2003-2009 have AAM 1485WJ. 2010-2013 use AAM 1555WJ
Ball Joints are Pressed into the Axle "C" Yokes
