The NV4500 Top Cover was not designed to allow for replacement of the 3-4 and 1-2 Shift Forks. As detailed in my TM1003 NV4500 Service Manual, we have come up with a way to easily service your NV4500 Top Cover using one of these Kits. Each Kit includes 3 Cup Type Shift Rail Bore Plugs, 7 Roll Pins for the Shift Forks/Lugs, 3 Alloy Steel Button Head Screws, 3 Stainless Steel Sealing Washers, 2 Drill Bits, Tap, and 242 Threadlocker. 100% U.S.A. Made.

Tech Note 2: Early and Late Kits
The difference between QK1144 Early and QK1145 Late NV4500 Top Cover Service Kits is the type and size of the expansion plugs used to seal the shift rail bores. Early (1992-1995) covers have convex dish type plugs. 1996 and newer covers have cup type plugs with a sealant ring. Since most NV4500 transmissions have been rebuilt or swapped by now, it is always a good idea to verify the plug type your cover has before ordering the Service Kit.

Tech Note 4: Lubricants, Sealants, Threadlockers
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case! Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
