Tech Note 1: Must Remove
To replace your Inner Axle Shaft Oil Seals, you have to remove the brakes, hubs, axle shafts, and differential. See TSB4597 for detailed, color illustrated, easy to read service procedures for removing and installing your 2003-2013 AAM 925 14 Bolt Front Axle Inner Axle Shafts.
Tech Note 2: To Remove
QU10945 AAM Seals are of composite construction combining a steel shell with a plastic axle shaft guide. Trying to install these seals using makeshift tools usually results in a wrecked seal and buggered up differential adjuster threads. Our Installation Tool Kits TS4685 and QK4685 make short work of installing your new seals without damaging either the seal or axle housing.
Tech Note 3: Seal Type
QU10945 is an oil bath type seal. The actual seal surface is internal, meaning the inner sleeve of the seal rotates within the outer body. With this design, the outside diameter of the seal shell is a press fit in the axle housing. The inside diameter of the rotating sleeve is an interference fit on the axle shaft. If you had to use a pry bar to get your axle shafts out, it was due to the tight fit between the axle shaft and seal.
Tech Note 4: After Installing
After installing your new seals, lubricate the inside of the rotating sleeve with a thin film of grease or petroleum jelly. Doing so will ease axle shaft installation and minimize corrosion on that axle shaft seal surface.
