Tech Note 1: Will Also Fit Other Years
QU10265 is a component part of QU10708 Dodge NV4500 Shift Stub. The thread is 14mm coarse. QU10265 Upper Stub is specific to 1992-1993 Dodge, but it will fit the shift stub knuckle on any 1992-1997 Dodge or 1992-1994 GM New Venture NV4500 transmission with the integral tower shift cover. Drive out the slightly tapered solid pin that holds the upper stub to the knuckle. Remove the upper stub (usually a VERY tight fit). Line up the pin holes on the knuckle and new upper stub. Press in new upper stub. Install solid pin.
Tech Note 2: Older NV4500's
If you have an older NV4500 with the integral shaft tower (GM to 1995, Dodge to 1997), and you have trouble shifting into gear (usually 3rd or 4th) the culprit may be a worn shift tower seat. A very strong spring exerts down pressure against the shift stub. Over time, the stub will wear into the integral aluminum seat. In extreme cases, the seat wears to the point where the shift stub base will hit the shift rail. When this happens, the friction between the rail and stub can make shifting very difficult or cause the shifter stub to jump out of the rail notch. The solution is to replace QU10262 cover plate or cover assembly. The later design, QU10706 flat top cover with a removable tower is less prone to wear in the shift tower. Early and late covers are interchangeable as far as fitting the transmission goes, but you have to make sure you order the correct stub or tower to match your shifter when changing top cover types.
