The illustrations are usually good, but lack fine detail that would help the first time or Do-It Yourself (DIY) mechanic. As an example, my TM1003 NV4500 Transmission Service Manual has 116 pages and over 400 color photographs plus very detailed rebuild and technical information to cover rebuilding a NV4500 5 Speed Manual Transmission. The Dodge Factory Service Manual coverage includes a few dozen line drawings spread over about 40 pages.
