It usually takes several hundred pounds of torque to initiate compression of the Spacer which will slowly collapse as you further tighten the Pinion Nut. The trick is to tighten the nut only to the point you get the desired rotating torque for the pinion (measured in INCH pounds). Go too far and you have to start over with a new nut and Preload Spacer.
