Great selection. In stock. With a Closed Knuckle axle, the axle universal joints and king pin bearings are lubricated by very heavy oil or a viscous grease that will flow when the axle shafts rotate. A large, multi-piece seal is bolted to the backside of the steering knuckle to keep lubricant in and water out. On poorly maintained closed knuckle axles or axles equipped with lockout hubs that are rarely used in 4x4, the upper king pin bearing and axle universal joint can suffer from lack of lubrication. The Ball Seals will usually weep some lubricant especially when standard gear oils are used as a lubricant. Submersion of the axle under water or condensation from temperature changes can cause moisture to build up inside the enclosed ball and lead to corrosion damage and part failures.

QT1819 Knuckle Bearing Cup Installer for Dana 25, 27, 30 and 44 Front Axles is used to install QU50627 Steering Knuckle Bearing Cups in 1953-1975 standard duty Dana 25, 27, 30, 44 closed knuckle front axles in Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, IHC, Jeep, and Studebaker 4x4s. Bearing Cup Installers are the key to damage free bearing cup installation. With one, you can completely seat those bearing cups without nicks or dings. Using the proper Cup Installer and Handle completely eliminates one of the most common causes of premature bearing failure, namely installation with punches or other makeshift tools.

Tech Note 2: Handle
I recommend an 8" handle (QT1100, QT1116) for Knuckle Bearing Cup Installation.

Applications:

Chevy/GMC
GM 4x4 Suburban, K10, K15, K20, K25 Dana 44 Standard Closed Knuckle Axle: 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969

Dodge
W100, W200 Dana 44 Standard Closed Knuckle Front Axle: 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971

Ford
Bronco Dana 30 Open Knuckle King Pin Axle: 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971
F-250 Dana 44 Closed Knuckle Standard Duty Front Axle: 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966 F-100, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975
F-100 Dana 44 Open Knuckle King Pin Axle: 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971

International
Scout Dana 27, Dana 30 Closed Knuckle Front Axles: 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970
Dana 44 Closed Knuckle 1/2 ton and light 3/4 ton: 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975

Jeep
Dana 25, Dana 27, Dana 44 Closed Knuckle 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973

Studebaker
Dana 44 Closed Knuckle Front Axles 4x4 Pickups: 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964

Video:

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0603/0206/5741/files/QT1812_clean__33818_24916__12839.1707820954.1280.1280.png?v=1742473881
4939-tka4939-11-piece-premium-steering-knuckle-shim-kit-dana-25-44-axles
TKA4939 11 Piece Premium Steering Knuckle Shim Kit Dana 25-44 Axles

TKA4939 Premium Torque King Knuckle Shim Kit for Dana Closed Knuckle and Ford Open Knuckle Front Axles TKA4939 fits all Dana 25-Dana 44 closed Knuckle Front Axles with 8 Bolt Ball Seals and 1966-197 Ford Dana 30. If the vehicle manufacturer recommended steering knuckle lubricant is not available, Dana recommends SAE 140 grade gear lubricant for the knuckles. However, straight gear lube will almost always seep past the knuckle seal which covers the inside of the tires with oil, stains the garage floor and is unacceptable for current environmental standards. More shims decreases preload, less shims increases preload. King Pin Caps are shimmed to put the specified turning preload on the bearings. The amount of turning preload on varies by vehicle and year but the value is measured by a beam or dial type torque wrench (refer to the vehicle manufacturer Service Manual for your specific model specification or if a manual is unavailable, see Tech Note 7). The critical measurement is the amount of force required to move the steering knuckle through the turning arc. The measurement is taken by attaching a beam or dial type torque wrench to one of the King Pin Cap screws. Do NOT install the knuckle seal, axle shaft, or tie rod before setting turning preload. Dana recommends the following turning preload for Dana 25, Dana 27, Dana 30, and standard Dana 44 steering knuckles:
5-10 lbs. ft. for axles with tapered roller bearings top and bottom
10-20 lbs. ft. for axles with upper bronze bushings

Tech Note 10: Bearing Cup Installer
The small size of the bearing cups makes them a bit tricky to install. The amount of turning preload on varies by vehicle and year but the value is measured by a beam or dial type torque wrench (refer to the vehicle manufacturer Service Manual for your specific model specification or if a manual is unavailable, see Tech Note 7). Too loose can cause poor steering or "Death Wobble", too tight will lead to rapid bearing failure, broken parts, and possible steering loss.

Tech Note 8: Shims and Preload 2
The Knuckle Bearings MUST be shimmed to provide correct knuckle turning preload. What I used to do, was mix SAE 250 weight gear lube with grease to make a semi-liquid lubricant which will flow into the bearings and u-joints, but not seep significantly past the seals.

Tech Note 7: Shims & Preload 1
Shims are used between the King Pin Caps and Steering Knuckles to set your Knuckle Bearing/Bushing turning preload. You can also use whatever lubricant specified in your original Operators Manual. Besides the obvious risk of burning up your gear set from lack of lubrication, the leaked out gear lube will dilute your Closed Knuckle Lubricant and in advanced cases wash out the front wheel bearing grease.

Safety Data Sheets: 65
No Products were found (source MSDS 11/02/2016)

Applications
8-Bolt and 12-Bolt Closed Knuckle 4x4 Front Axles

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0603/0206/5741/files/closedknucklelube_sg__10885_7073__62807__79977_46863__00708.1708622719.1280.1280.jpg?v=1742690540
42187-qu42187-8-bolt-knuckle-seal-kit
QU42187 8 Bolt Knuckle Seal Kit

QU42187 Replacement 8 bolt Knuckle Ball Seal Kit for Dana 25, 27, 30, 44 closed knuckle front axles is a good quality, low price reproduction Knuckle Seal Kit for all 1941-1975 Dana 25, Dana 27, Dana 30, and standard Dana 44 Closed Knuckle Front Axles in Chevy, Dodge, Ford, IHC, and Jeep 4x4s.
