1999-2016 Axle Identification F350 Dana 80R

1999-2016 Dana 80 Dual Rear Wheel Rear Axles in Ford F-350, F-450 Super Duty trucks and motorhome chassis have a Bill of Material Number (BOM) stamped on a Build Tag (red arrow) attached to the differential by two of the differential cover bolts (yellow arrows). For 1999-2003, plus most 2004 and some early 2005 trucks, the BOM number is a 6 digit number beginning with a 6 plus a dash number (ex: 605523-3). Some 2004, most 2005 and all 2006-2016 model year axles have a 7 digit BOM number beginning with a 2 followed by a dash number (ex: 2002830-2) The BOM number can be used to determine not only the axle model, but also what components the axle was originally built with. We often ask for this number to insure we provide you with the exact parts you need for your truck.

Each different BOM number signifies an engineering part change which may be minor or major and may involve one or more parts. The dash number indicates the axle ratio and differential type (open or locking). Unfortunately, these tags are often missing on trucks that had prior differential service.
